Inn-Termission:
Southside-Pittsburgh, Pa.
We just wanted to
warm up the crowd, “Git By”, “Till The
Cows Come Home”, “Ain’t It Amazin”. All
just a prelude to the arrival of the
main man, Dave Dombrosky on da squeeze
box. It’s always a pleasure to strap it
on with this guy. This was a great
opportunity to explore some very cool
music. We started double D off with a
happy version of “Who Were You Thinking
Of”, the ole Texas Tornados classic.
“Wasted Days and Wasted Nights” gave a
nod to Freddy Fender, luv Dat. The Sam
the Sham tune, “Wolly Bully” brought joy
to those in attendance. How bout “Are
You Lonesome Tonight” on the squeeze
box, romance baby. “Camero” took us all
back to a little café on the
Texas-Mexican border. Hey poncho…….Hey
Cisco……………..”Help Me Make It Thru the
Night” was dramatic, as it turned into
“It’s Only Make Believe”. We closed out
our set with the man, double D, with a
vocal duet of “The Just Because Polka”.
Double D was chirping the high part,
daddy clean was on da main
line………powerful. Had a great time, got
to play for some new folks…………polka
people rock………..

Excuses:
Southside-Pittsburgh, Pa.
“Git By” rolled
off the floor, so we gave it some more.
“Boilermaker” was majestic in a trashy
kind of way. For the second night in a
row we did “Two Story House” early. “If
I Had A Child” was smoking on this
Saturday night fish fry. I remember
tellin the story of the Beadman getting
da name, Beadman. “Loverboy” came off
clean. Looking back, it makes me think
about how talented Frank Zuri was, and
is. Set two came to life when “Easy
Money” bulldozed its way across the
floor. “When I Die And Go To Hell” was
cool, except I forgot a few words here
and there. As I was setting Whitey up to
Sing “Try Me”, the great ole James Brown
number, I interrupted myself and broke
into a half *ssed version of “I Go
Crazy”. I sang it in a key that was too
high, which didn’t help. Hey Whitey, get
me outta dis mess I got myself into.
“How You Like Me Now” closed out the
night. Then da madness of da night crept
into da situation.

Moondogs:
Blawnox, Pa.
The roads was icy,
so I was delighted some folks came out
to the show. “Nightclub”, “Two Story
House” , we was on a roll so I was
having a ton of fun, just being a guy in
a bar band. I love my job. “Burn’in Up”
had an urgent feel to it. “Ain’t It
Amazin” got a big response from those in
attendance. I forgot to mention, ole
buddy Chuck Kohler helped us get rolling
by helping to deduce the problems we
were having wit the house PA. I’d like
to thank Chuck for teaching me the word,
deduce. Cool, huh? Not Really.
“Boilermaker”, “Loverboy” and
“Hightimes” all spanked some fanny. We
sent out “Rock You” to ole pal Frankie
T. from Guntown. Decided to try “How You
Like Me Now”, after not playing it for
probably 8 years. Out of nowhere I
started playing “Three River Rock”,
which we hadn’t played in at least 15
years. Katie Ramone sang “Be My Baby”
then we closed up shop with “Please
don’t Talk About Me”.

Michael
O’Malley’s: Austintown, Ohio
Not a large crowd tonight, but we sure
had a lotta fun. Got to meet a few new
folks, and got to say hello to some ole
friends. Harry had his big speaker
cabinet and Whitey had an extra floor
tom tom. Cool! Local celebrity and kick
ass DJ Freddy, was in da house shoutin
out our introduction, which lead into
“Ready Freddy”. We did “That Ain’t
Gonna Happen” and “I Seen Too Much”
early in the first set, just for fun.
“Hoochie Mama” was strong n’ nat. “End
of the Line” also held its own. Harry
ripped “Pot’s n’ Pan’s”, we followed
that with “Graceland” and “Yesterday’s
Gone”. A powerful “Smoke Two Joints” was
a great closer for set one. “Somethin’s
Cookin”, “Weekend” and “Rock n’ Roll
City” shined in the second set. “Who
Dat Do Dat” sparked up the final round
of this heavy weight action. Before it
was all over, Katie Ramone got a big
round of applause for singing “Be My
Baby”. Somewhere in the middle of one of
Freddy’s delirious rants he called
Whitey and Harry, “da trailer park two”.
Kind ‘a like dat……………
February 9,
2008- Saturday
Scottdale Fire
Hall: Scottdale, Pa.
Things started
rolling right off the bat, sometimes
it’s easy. I couldn’t get anybody workin
da dance floor early, but I do believe
we were scoring points. “Hoochie Mama”
was just right, “Weekend” was well
received and “Rock n’ Roll City” had all
the heads bouncing in the house. We
started off set two with a song for ole
friend Dave, from back in da Titlow
Hotel days, “T- Bird” which set the
table for “Two Story House”. “We Come A
Long Way”, “Loverboy”, and a smoking
version of “Burn n’ Up”. “Graceland”
came off well, as did “Yesterday’s
Gone”. By the time set three rolled
around, the house was rockin strong; da
dance floor was a sight. “Lovedog” got
it all going, like so many times before.
Have I ever told ya bout da worst song I
ever wrote? The ole Smokey tune, “You
Really Got A Hold On Me” sounded sooo
cool on this sacred Saturday
social………….and da high priest and his
holy men drove off into da nite………… |
