The LongVue Lounge: N. Versailles, PA - Call Jackie if lost at

9:30 p.m. - 1:30 a.m. - Sat.
In a very casual, underwhelming way, the guys really got it goin'
tonight. Harry and Whitey had a strong groove goin' and Norman was just
spankin' his guitar. "Victoria's Secret" sounded pretty good but still
needs work. The Manful Handful's guitar sounded really good tonight. He
said he was playin' through soundman Ray's new amp. "Last Night I Had A
Dream" started set two and sounded really good. The Ray Charles classic
"I Can't Stop Lovin' You" gave Whitey a chance to sing a great high
harmony. Harry also sang lead on "Pots n Pans" and got a great round of
applause. "That Girl" and "Rich Kid" started set three. Then Pete Oddo
(Norm's cousin) finished out the set with Norm and Harry sounding like a
great 1960's garage band on "Gloria", "Wholly Bully", "Wasted Days And
Wasted Nights" and "Round n Round". Good night at the Longvue!

The Mannish Boys start at 8 pm. Norman & The Guys go on at 9:45 PM.
It had been a good six or seven years since Norman had been to Altoona
so tonight was long overdue. Local favorites, "The Mannish Boys opened
up the show and really warmed up the crowd. By the time the Manful
Hanful took the stage, the room was ready. Norman and the guys made it
look easy tonight. "lazy Bones", "Boilermaker", "Rock N Roll City",
"White Trash Tragedy". Norman sent out a big thank you to Q94 DJ Jim
Price for the support. "That Ain't Gonna Happen", "I Seen Too Much",
"Mr. Right Now". Three songs from the "Redemption" CD really stood out.
"High Times", "Burnin' Up" and "That Girl". After about an hour and a
half of Norman songs, some old cover tunes really got the dance floor up
and goin'. Norman called up Rusty and Riff of The Mannish Boys to finish
out the night. Good Good Rockin!

8:00 p.m. - 12 a.m. - Wednesday
"Lazy Bones", "Looks Are Deceivin", "White Trash Tragedy", Boilermaker".
Good crowd tonight with a few new faces. Lots of girls up and dancin!
Once again, "You Go Your Way" and "Million Tears" stood out with hot
guitar slide solos. A rare performance of "Three Times Your Fool" got
some good applause. Harry was playing a new acoustic lookin' bass most
of the night. "Smoke Two Joints", by request, crushed! Second set "That
Ain't Gonna Happen", "I Seen Too Much", "Mr Right Now", "Who Dat", "Burnin'
Up". Norman tried his new song tonight "Victoria's Secret". It sounded
ok but it could still use some work. Norman's nuts! Sometimes he plays
songs he doesn't even know! Norman did "Rainbow" for his favorite
bartender Mary. Then the Manful Hanful said he wanted to do a rap he
wrote during Thanksgiving Day in the early 80s. The song "Loverboy" was
written with Frank Czuri in the 70s. And believe it or not, Snoop Doggy
Dog walked right up on stage and danced. The truth is, it was a life
sized cardboard Snoop Dog but he danced really good!

Tonight was a magic night. Phil Brontz (8th Street Rox tenor sax man)
played most of the evening with the guys. It was a treat. One of them
things that don't happen too often. "Bulldog" and "Lazy Bones" gave the
guys a chance to warm up and stretch out. "You Go Your Way" "End of The
Line" and "Million Tears" featured Norman on slide guitar. "Here Comes
The Weekend", "T-Bird" and "She's A Friend Of Mine" featured Phil on
tenor sax. Norman called Mike and Bud of 8th Street Rox to the stage to
do Johnny Cash's "Fullsom Prison Bles" and the Rolling Stones' "It's All
Over Now". It looked like everybody was havin' a whole lotta fun! "Smoke
Two Joints", featured a tenor sax solo which was different, but kinda
cool. Norman had some fun with Phil on the song "Norman", making him
play trombone parts on his sax. The last set was short but sweet. Pete
Oddo on drums, Harry on bass, Phil on sax, Double N on guitar with
Whitey Cooper up front puttin' the soul into the rock n roll! Yeah Baby!

"Boilermaker", "Looks Are Deceivin'". Norman said he wrote a new song
this week, then he recited the words..."Victoria's secret, kept for a
while, then everything changed with people's lifestyle. Now, even if
you're a lady, sometimes ya gotta look like a whore, cause Victoria's
secret ain't a secret no more!" "Nothin' To Lose" gave Norman a chance
to rip some serious guitar meat. Norman talked about Sunday's Football
game with the Cleveland Clowns with great anticipation. "You Go Your
Way" is really turning into a hot tune. "Rock You" got the whole dance
floor goin' like so many times before. The second set started off with
"White Trash Tragedy" and it just kept comin'. "Gettin' It" and
"Graceland". Then Norman shouted out "legs in the air, without a care,
at Lilith Fair". Then he laughed like a crazy man. Whitey Cooper sang
"Chain Gang" and "Sweet SOul Music". It seemed to excite Norman cause he
ripped into the new song that he said he wasn't ready to play yet.
Victoria's secret ain't a secret no more! The Manful Hanful just walked
out the door.

There seemed to be magic in the air before the guys even started playin'
tonight. Once again, Norman & The Guys took the stage and made it all
look so easy. With longtime band members Whitey Cooper & Harry Bottoms
laying down the strongest grooves all evening long. The first set
featured mostly new songs like "Graceland", Mr Right Now", Who Dat Do
Dat" and "End Of The Line". The second set saw Norman playin' the old
Tiger songs..."High Times", "Burnin' Up". Norman talked all night long
and got the whole joint laughin' and partyin'. The dance floor was
packed all night long. Regional hero Jake Banta came up and played the
last hour of the night with the guys and really got the locals off.
Impromptu versions of "Fever", "Sunshine Super Man", "Fulsome Prison
Blues" and Tony Joe White's "Polk Salad Annie" that featured a bass
tradeoff between between Harry Bottoms and Jakes old bassist Jason. What
an incredible night in Pennsyltucky!

9:30 p.m. - 1 a.m. - Fri.
I love the Starlite cause it's so damn casual. Norman seems to thrive in
that atmosphere. "Lazy Bones", "Looks Are Deceivin", then about 10
minutes of senseless b.s. banter would set the mood for the night.
Laughter is good! So let it rip! "Graceland" and "Yesterday;s Gone"
stood out. As soon as the guys took a break, Norman, Harry and Steve
Rowhan who was in the audience, went next door to Moondogs. Norman got
up with Fungus (Pittsburgh's Premiere Grateful Dead style band) and
performed "Fade Away". Great interplay between NN and guitarist Terry
Callahan. Moondog got up and sang "I Shall Be Released" with Harry and
Gas on background vocals. Norman and Harry sang the Rolling Stones "The
Last Time" and walked out of the club before the song was over, back to
work at the Starlite. A great and crazy second set. It's hard to put
into words, the kinda fun that was happenin'. Laughter is good. Yo Ass
shoulda been there!
